How a call goes

Same six steps on the first call and the thousandth. Each one is something you can check by calling the demo line yourself.

  1. 1Ring

    It picks up

Your number forwards to it on the conditions you choose: when you're busy, after hours, when nobody answers, or all the time. The greeting names your business and says it's the virtual receptionist.

  2. 2Listen

It works out what the caller needs

Book a job, move one, ask a question, or reach you. No menu, no press one. If the caller talks over it, it stops and listens.

  3. 3Offer

    It offers real open times

Once we connect your Cal.com calendar, openings come from it, and it offers two rather than reading out a list.

  4. 4Book

It books, then checks its own work

The booking is written to your Cal.com calendar and read back. If what's on the calendar doesn't match, it doesn't tell the caller they're booked; it takes a message for you instead.

  5. 5Message

Everything else becomes a message you can act on

It takes the caller's name, callback number, service address and the problem, reads the number back, and emails the message to you.

  6. 6Screen

    Spam doesn't reach you

Known spam numbers are screened out, and it hangs up on silent robocalls.

When something goes wrong

Written from the caller's side. The rule under all of it: nothing is made up on a call.

It doesn't know the answer
It says so and takes a message. It never makes up a price, a time or a promise.
The calendar can't be reached
It stops offering times and takes the request as a message. It never invents an opening.
The booking doesn't check out
If the read-back from the calendar doesn't match, the caller is not told they're booked. You get a message to sort it out.
A caller smells gas
It tells them to leave the building and call the gas company or 911 from outside. Those words are fixed; the model can't change them.

What it doesn't do yet

  • No Jobber, Housecall Pro or ServiceTitan sync yet. Bookings go into Cal.com.
  • It doesn't put callers through to your phone yet. It takes a message instead.
  • No login of your own yet. Tell us a change and we make it the same day.
  • English only for now.
  • No text message confirmations yet.
  • Not for medical or dental offices.
  • It doesn't make outbound calls or take card payments over the phone.

Getting set up

  1. 1

Forward your line, or get a new number

Keep your business number and forward it when you're busy or after hours. Or we give you a new local number to put on the van.

  2. 2

We write your script from your info

One short intake: your hours, the jobs you book, what they cost, who calls go to. We turn that into what it says. Nothing it says is made up.

  3. 3

    Test call, then go live

You call it yourself and try to trip it up. We fix what you don't like, then switch your calls over.

Your call data

The full version is in the privacy policy.

What's kept
The caller's number, the times, the outcome and what was said, so we can answer any question you have about a call. Calls are not recorded.
Who can read it
You, and the people at DevX who set up and support your line. Nobody else.
What we never do
We don't sell call data and we don't use your calls to train anyone else's system.

Questions

Does it actually book jobs, or just take messages?

Both. It can always take a full message: name, callback number, address and the problem, emailed to you. It can also book into a Cal.com calendar, which we connect for you at setup. It offers open times, writes the booking, then reads it back before telling the caller they're booked.

Does it work with Jobber, Housecall Pro or ServiceTitan?

Not yet. Bookings go into Cal.com and messages come to you by email, so for now you add the job to Jobber or Housecall Pro by hand. If you run everything inside Jobber, Jobber's own receptionist may suit you better.

What if a caller wants a real person?

It takes their name, number and what they need, reads the number back, and emails it to you straight away. It doesn't put calls through to your phone yet.

Will it make up prices or promise things I don't offer?

No. It only says what's in your settings. If a caller asks about a price or a job you haven't given it, it says it doesn't have that and takes a message.

Does it tell callers it's not a person?

Yes. The greeting says it's the virtual receptionist, and it never pretends to be a person.

Does it speak Spanish?

Not yet. It answers in English only.

Does it send text confirmations?

Not yet. Business texting needs a carrier registration that isn't finished, so it doesn't send texts today. We'll say so here when it does.

Can I change what it says?

Yes. The greeting, your hours, your answers to common questions and the prices it may quote all live on one settings page. Tell us what to change and we make it the same day; it's live on the next call.

Call it right now. It's answering.

It answers for DevX, the same way it will for you.
